Tourism

Nepal is a beautiful country with huge potential of being a tourist hub welcoming thousands of tourists every year. Nepal contains thousands of destinations with scenic, natural and religious importance ready to be explored. Nepal Tourism witnessed a growth of 24 percent with 1,173,072 foreign tourists in 2018 compared to 2017. The government and tourism department of Nepal authoritatively reported that Nepal will take the year 2020 as “Visit Nepal 2020”, a year committed to the tourism industry of Nepal with vision of making a reasonable brand picture of Nepal as travel and vacationer destination, backing up the tourism foundations of Nepal, enhance the growth of the tourism industry, and enhance local tourism as supportable industry. The legislature has wanted to accommodate more than one million visitors amid the year of “Visit Nepal 2020”.

But Nepal has not fully utilized its resources and faces many hardships in the sector. Though the influx of tourists has certainly increased the amount of time they stay within the country has decreased. It is increasingly evident that the tourists who actually come into the country visit a select few places; a lot of Nepal’s hidden gems remain hidden.

Nepal’s tourism sector has not been able to update itself to the current times, and innovation and technology in the sector despite its potential has been scarce. It has been clearer than ever that innovate solutions must be developed to update our tourism sector to today’s age. Technology must play a leading role in connecting Tourists to Nepal’s potential. If the goal of the government concerning VISIT NEPAL 2020 is to be met; a rapid sweep of technological advances must be brought to the tourism sector. Participants can develop projects which impact the tourism sector in a positive way; be it by increasing the influx of tourists, increasing their time of stay or promoting the hidden gems of the country.
